Security Guards : Unsung Corona Warriors
The COVID-19 pandemic came to our doors unannouced. Even as people worldwide were still realising the danger they were in, certain workforces took charge to keep us safe. While the medical and sanitisation teams are applauded across the globe, security guards received little or no recognition for the efforts they put in daily for the safety of the society.
During the pandemic, in addition to their routine places of duty, security guards were heavily deployed at high risk areas including supermarkets, hospitals and triage points. Despite being at risk, the security guards performed their duty with exceptional brilliance. From ensuring that no huge crowds gathered around important areas, to making sure no one face any inconvenience, security personnels ensured a smooth flow of operation at every location.
Those standing guards at any residential area understood the importance of restricting the movement of people within the society. In most communities, the guards kept the main gates closed, and checked the Id of each person or vehicle coming in or leaving the society. They also made sure that every person living in the society had their masks up while using the common areas.
In situations where people cannot talk to each other face-to-face, maintaining a smooth flow of communication is important. The security personnels assumed the role of mediators between the residents and visitors, to ensure there is no confusions or miscommunication on either end.
Their work didn't end just there. Soon after the lockdown was lifted, heavy crowds flooded the public areas. During the time, security personnels managed the crowds at crucial locations, ensuring each person is following social distancing. They also checked the temperature of every visitor, safeguarding everyone's health.
As the country gears up for a suspected third wave, it is imperative to understand the contributions of security guards in ensuring that all the restrictions ordered by the Indian and State Governments were implied at the grass root level.
